Issues needing a decision of Council usually begin at the Sub-committee level. There are eight Sub-committees of Council comprised of 4 members of Council. The Sub-committees meet once a month in the Council Chamber to discuss and make recommendations on the matters before them. Sub-committee meetings are open to the public, except for in-camera sessions to discuss certain privileged matters.
If anyone from the Public would like to attend
a Sub-committee meeting, they are asked to contact
the Clerk’s Division at 519-271-0250, ext. 237
to confirm the meeting time and location.
In addition to the 8 Sub-committees of Council, there are 8 Standing Committees of Council, comprised of all members of Council. These Standing Committees consider the recommendations of their respective sub-committees. The Committees normally meet once a month on either the Second or Fourth Monday of each month, immediately following the regular Council Meeting.
City Council meets in Regular Session on the Second and Fourth Mondays of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber, City Hall to adopt recommendations from the Standing Committees, enact by-laws and adopt resolutions related to city business. If Monday is a holiday, the meeting is held on Tuesday. Meetings are open to the Public and agendas are available from the Clerk’s Division the Friday before the Monday Council meeting. Persons wishing to make presentations to Council must contact the City Clerk’s Office to determine the appropriate meeting, date and time to schedule the presentation. If a presentation is scheduled on the Council Agenda, a motion to hear the presentation is required by Council. Procedural By-law 216-2002 sets out the procedures for presentations to Council, and the decorum to be observed.
