Landfill Site Regulations

Hours of operation:
Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Saturdays 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Statutory Holidays CLOSED
(includes: Good Friday, Easter Monday, Victoria Day, Canada Day, Civic Holiday, Labour Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day)

Loads of waste entering the Waste Management Site which are carried by packers, luggers, cube vans, dump trucks, roll-off trucks and large stake trucks will not be accepted after 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday or after 11:00 am on Saturdays.

SITE PROCEDURES

All vehicles entering the landfill site must stop at the scale house and receive direction from the operator before proceeding into the site. Scavenging for any material is not allowed at the landfill site.

RATES   (effective January 1st, 2012)

All materials accepted for land filling, composting or recycling are charged at the following rate:

$73.50 per Metric Tonne


Loads of recyclables, brush and yard waste less then 200 kilograms (440 pounds) are accepted at no charge.


Up to 5 bags or cans of waste are accepted at $2.75 per bag or can. More than 5 bags or cans are weighed.

All loads are weighed at the discretion of the Scale House operator.

There is a minimum charge of $15.00 for all weighed loads.

  • Wood Pallets
  • Hazardous Waste
  • Railway ties
  • Appliances containing or have
    contained FREON
  • Brush
  • Liquid Waste
  • Clean Fill (unless approved by
    Public Works.)
  • Electronic Waste
  • Blue Box Recycables
  • Leaf and Yard Waste (Organics)
  • Corrugated Cardboard from Industrial, Commercial and Institutional sources
  • MATERIALS ACCEPTED FOR DISPOSAL

    • Only garbage generated within the boundaries of the City of Stratford is accepted at the landfill site.
    • Asbestos is accepted but must be handled according to MOEE guidelines. The Public Works Dept. must be notified of such loads prior to their being brought to the Site. Please call 519-271-0820
    • All garbage not banned from disposal at the site.
    • Contaminated soil as defined in MOEE regulation 347 if approved for acceptance by the Engineering Department.

    MATERIAL ACCEPTED FOR RECYCLING AND COMPOSTING

    • Household Hazardous Wastes are accepted for recycling twice yearly every Spring and Fall.
    • Motor oil and oil filters are accepted week days all year long, for further information call the Public Works Department.
    • Blue Box Recyclables:
      1. Glass Bottles and Jars, Newspapers, Magazines and Phone Books, Cans, Rigid Plastic Bottles.
    • Compostable materials:
      1. Loads of Brush
      2. Loads of Yard Waste including weeds, plants, trimmings and grass. Yard waste must be unbagged and must be free of any garbage.
    • Metals (excluding appliances that carry or could carry freon)
    If recyclable or compostable material is brought in with regular garbage it must be clearly separated from the garbage on the load.

    • Televisions and Computer Monitors
    • Computers, Palm Pilots, Laptops
    • Telecommunication Boards
    • Printers
    • Printer ink cartridges
    • Computer chips, cases, hard drives
    • Power supply units, servers
    • Cellular phones (without batteries)
    • VCR's, DVD players
    • Stereos
    • All electrical wire
    There is NO charge for electronic waste.
