The Fire Prevention Division is located at Station #2,
44 McCarthy Rd. The office is staffed by the Director of Fire
Prevention, Tim Adair and Fire Inspector, Brent Chadwick.
Hours Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm excluding statutory holidays.
A fire prevention officer is available twenty-four hours a
day, seven days a week, to investigate fire cause and origin,
complaints and to assist at emergencies.
The Fire Prevention Division is responsible for inspecting all types of
occupancies as defined by the Ontario Building Code. These may include request,
complaint, routine. New buildings and existing change of use properties are inspected
prior to occupancy.
Inspectors are certified in: Fire Cause Determination, Public Fire
and Life Safety Educators and as Firefighter facilitators with The Arson Prevention Program
for Children (TAPP-C) and are in the process of becoming certified Fire Prevention
Officers by the Office of the Fire Marshal through the Fire Prevention Officers Program offered at
the Ontario Fire College.
Fire Code compliance and public education in regards to fire and life safety
are extremely inportant priorities of this division. This is accomplished by providing inspections
of properties within our corporate boundaries, portable fire extinguisher demonstrations/training
and fire safety plan review for industry. Giving lectures to local schools, groups and service
clubs. Utilizing the Fire Safety House at local schools and public events. Hosting and annual
open house at Station #1 during Fire Prevention Week.
