The Firefighter Combat Challenge is designed to feature physical
fitness in the fire service. It is a physically and mentally grueling event
worthy of the nickname "the toughest two minutes in
sports".
Teams of three to five members compete individually against the clock wearing full NFPA approved
turnout gear and 4.5 Scott Air Pack. The top three times from each team are combined for a total
team time to determine final standings. Teams with a time under 9:00 minutes and individuals with
a time under 3:00 minutes qualify for the Canadian Championships.
The Combat Challenge
-
Stair Climb - carry a high-rise standpipe pack (42 pounds) to the top of the five
story tower and deposit the hose load into a designated box.
-
Hose Hoist - using a hand over hand motion, pull a 5/8-inch rope to hoist a
donut roll of LDH (45 pounds) and deposit donut roll into a designated box.
-
Forcible Entry - using a 9 pound shot mallet and force machine,
drive a 165 pound I beam 5 feet.
-
Hose Advance - after moving a distance of 140 feet through marked hydrants,
pick up a 45mm charged hose line and move forward 75 feet, crack the nozzle and hit a
designated target.
-
Victim Rescue - drag a 175 pound victim a distance of 100 feet. The time stops
when the dummy is completely across the line.
