Why is it necessary to build a new “Fairgrounds”?
The present facilities cannot be updated to meet the
needs of the Agricultural and Recreational communities
of Stratford. The new complex will provide a state-of-the-art
multi-use place for sports, rural shows, as well as
national, provincial and local agricultural conferences.
How much will this project cost?
The total cost is approximately $20 million. Of that,
$15 million will come from the City of Stratford. That
leaves approximately $5 million that must be raised
through a public fundraising campaign.
What are the plans for the new complex?
The core of the project is the recreational facility
with two NHL regulation size rinks with seating for
approximately 1,400 spectators, a walking track, a Coliseum
with a 2,000 person capacity, an indoor farmers
market, show barn and agriculture activity area with
seating for 300.
What will this project mean to the community?
All across Canada, new facilities are enhancing the
quality of community life. By providing recreational
activities, we will enhance the health of our own community.
The multi-use Farmers’ Market space and agricultural
events complete the community needs with the Fairgrounds
remaining an important focal point of the project.
Who will be asked to contribute?
The Campaign Leaders will seek support from all private
sector sources including individuals, businesses, financial
institutions, charitable foundations and service clubs.
Why are people being asked to consider a five-year pledge?
It would certainly be nice to reach our fundraising
goal with one-time donations. However, accepting donations
over a period of up to five years will enable our supporters
to contribute a much more substantial gift.
Will my gift qualify as a charitable donation for my
income tax?
Yes. As a donor you will receive an official receipt
for your gift. This receipt can be used for the calculation
of your personal income taxes.
